Job role: Project Engineer
Worksite location(s): Hushmand Associates, Inc’s office at 250 Goddard, Irvine, CA 92618.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct field investigations:
- Mark boring locations and call dig alert;
- Prepare well drilling permit package for regulatory agencies;
- Coordinate and schedule drillers, & drum disposal sub-contractors;
- Observation for hollow stem auger (HSA) and mud rotary drilling, collect samples using Standard Penetration Test (SPT) and Modified California (MC) samplers, and log the borings;
- Supervise Cone Penetration Test (CPT) subsurface investigations;
- Perform Dynamic Cone Penetration (DCP) and infiltration tests;
- Schedule and manage subcontractors for geophysical testing operations for locating underground utilities.
– Prepare laboratory test assignments, and interpret test results:
- For soil samples to be used in Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) projects; and
- For samples from drilling jobs to obtain index, strength, and consolidation properties for performing settlement, bearing capacity, and slope stability analyses.
– Perform engineering analyses, CQA services, install and calibrate ground deformations/vibration monitoring instrumentation and data collection:
- Prepare boring logs using gINT software;
- Run Excel Spreadsheet for settlement and bearing capacity calculations;
- Perform static and dynamic lateral earth pressure calculations;
- Run static and seismic slope stability analyses using SLIDE, Geostudio, PLAXIS, and FLAC;
- Perform pile analysis using LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GROUP, PYWall;
- Evaluate existing conditions and perform rehabilitation and new pavement design,
- Collect data from crack gauges, piezometers, inclinometers; analyze/interpret data, and present findings;
- Conduct field CQA inspections for CIDH and ACIP piles construction;
- Provide subgrade inspection for shallow foundations; and
- Verify proper execution of construction activities per project plans and specifications.
– Assist with preparation of proposals, geotechnical investigation reports, and construction as-built reports:
- Assist with business development and identify potential opportunities.
– Project Management and client relation:
- Assist to process billings, prepare invoices and change orders;
- Interact frequently with clients, contractors, owners, design team; and
- Attend client meetings.
Requirements for the job: Master’s degree in civil engineering or its foreign equivalent, and 1 year of experience in job offered or in the role of Geotechnical Staff Engineer, Staff Geotechnical Engineer, or related job. The past experience must include at least 12 months of experience in using different geotechnical engineering analysis tools and software such as gINT, LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, SLOPE/W, PLAXIS; Excel Spreadsheets for bearing capacity and settlement calculations; pavement designs. Must have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Civil Exam.
