Hushmand Associates, Incorporated (HAI) was founded in 1990 by Dr. Ben Hushmand, P.E., and established as a State of California Corporation on July 8, 1999. HAI is a geotechnical, environmental, earthquake, materials testing and specialty inspection engineering firm with more than 20 years of successful project experience. The company consists of a team of engineers, geologists, laboratory technicians, and specialty technicians with unparalleled capabilities and experience in design and construction in the following areas: public works, transportation, industrial buildings, water resources, infrastructure, utilities, oil refineries, landfills, and commercial/residential developments involving conventional and specialty geotechnical and earthquake engineering.
HAI’s professionals possess Registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineering Licenses and have successfully completed the 40-hour training requirements of Federal OSHA Regulations 29 CFR 1910.120 (e)(2)/8 CCR 5192 pertaining to OSHA environmental site investigations. Further augmenting our staff of professionals is our in-house soil mechanics laboratory. The laboratory is staffed with highly qualified certified technicians overseen by geotechnical engineers with over 20 years experience in soil interpretation and development of geotechnical design parameters.
HAI’s experience covers the full range of geotechnical engineering aspects of static and seismic design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and excavations. Our seismic design experience comprises site-specific evaluations of earthquake-induced geologic hazards including the following: ground shaking, surface rupture potential, land slides, liquefaction potential, ground settlement, lateral spreading, and bearing capacity failure and mitigation measures. Deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard evaluations are routinely performed to help with making risk management decisions in compliance with applicable regulations and regulatory agencies. HAI’s capability in providing specialty geotechnical instrumentation, vibration monitoring, and dynamic testing services for new construction projects or retrofit of existing structures are unique in the industry. HAI’s materials testing experience covers a wide range from soil to concrete testing.
