El Soberante Landfill Phase 12 Liner & LCRS

Located at the El Soberante Landfill, an active Class III municipal solid waste landfill in Corona, California, the Phase 12 encompasses an approximate total lined area of approximately 27.9 acres. The project was a double compost-liner system with soil and geosynthetics components with floor grades ranging from 2% to 7% that drains to the sump located at the northeastern corner of the cell. The liner system consists of prepared subgrade, compacted clay liner, 40-mil and 60-mil high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane, geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) sandwiched between the geomembrane layers, LCRS gravel layer with a networked HDPE piping system for leachate collection, and operations layer. HAI was tasked with construction monitoring and materials testing to ensure compliance with specifications and requirements throughout the project.
