Saugus Aquifer Treatment Plant

The project consisted of geotechnical field investigation, laboratory testing, engineering analyses, observation and testing during construction of a proposed Groundwater Treatment System and an associated transfer tank located at the former Whittaker-Bermite facility. The largest component of the plant is a fluidized bed reactor that has a diameter of 14 feet and a height of 30 feet, and weighs approximately 350,000 lbs. All the tanks, vessels and equipment were supported on one large concrete slab with approximate dimensions of 60 x 91 feet. HAI performed field investigation, laboratory tests, geotechnical engineering analyses to provide recommendations regarding earthwork, shoring, backfill requirements, ground improvement and foundation design, geotechnical field observation and testing activities during construction.
